A podcast launched in fall 2015 by two Bassett Unified teachers on special assignment (TOSAs) celebrated its 100th podcast this month and notched its 70,000th download by educators who are keen to learn ways to integrate technology into their instructional plans.

Bassett Unified held an Oath of Office Ceremony on Dec. 11 for returning Board of Education members Dolores Rivera and Paul Solano and newly elected board member Patrice Stanzione.

On November 2, Bassett High School dedicated a newly renovated special education center in honor of Linda Davis, a 30-year educator praised for championing the needs of special education students and helping them reach their full potential.

Bassett High School alum Monique Rodriguez credited Bassett Unified’s early childhood education program for setting her on the path to personal and professional success, during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony held Oct. 30 for the Flanner Early Childhood Development Center.

Bassett Unified will provide technology devices to students in transitional kindergarten through grade 12 and connect Bassett families to low-cost home internet service as part of the District’s Digital Learning Initiative (DLI), a four-year rollout that starts in August.

Torch Middle School eighth-grader Emerson Melendez relies on a network of social workers for support since he grew up in the foster care system. Their professionalism and empathy inspired Melendez to become a social worker as well.

Bassett Unified eighth-grade students slathered their hands with hand sanitizer before placing them inside a cardboard box. The students then peeked inside the box from an opening on the top and saw a special light illuminating the lingering germs on their palms and under their fingernails.

Pursuant to Education Code 60119 the District is required to hold an Instructional Materials public hearing. The Bassett Unified School District will hold a public hearing on Instructional Materials at the regular meeting of the Board of Education.

Bassett High Class of 2007 graduate William Herrera returned to his alma mater to give back to his community, inspiring students that they can achieve anything despite the obstacles they may face in their lives.
