ansible going live now good evening Sunkist parents family friends teachers were very happy to have you with us tonight as we are doing our virtual open house this is a virtual showcase all of the students work some of the you'll see some samples of what they've been working on this year and how they've been using the technology so again welcome and I just a quick overview of what we're going to how are you tonight we'll talk a little bit about PTA we will see the slideshow of the the Showcase of students in different grade levels we're going you look at information about in person learning hybrid and DL that's distance learning there will be an opportunity for questions and the chat is open now for you to post question at the end of this product who is on this meeting with us the school secretary she will be reading out those questions and I will respond to them so you're welcome to post your questions in the chat we have second step this is a program actually Sunkist has had this in Subway's for a while now but the district is moving forward with have this at all the sites and so now we have trained our teachers and this is the school I program second step is it social emotional learning program it stopped by the teachers and the school counselor and it's all throughout the district in elementary and middle schools along with students academic development we also support students with their emotional development especially now these times how we deal with our emotions and how we interact with the world is very important in school and in life and so here are some of the main points of the of the second step program to understand and manage emotions and to set and Achieve positive goals to feel and show empathy for others to establish and maintain positive relay add chips and make responsible decisions and this is what the cricket is all about and we have again you've been kind of doing this for a while with the counselor but now we be by train the teachers and given each day all the materials to be able to do those lessons we are piloting it this year and each grade level heads and helps identify root causes of behavior and help the school environment okay moving on to just to share some of the things that different grade levels to be working on so antique a bear learning how to count to 100 during morning calendar 40K celebrates 100 days school by decorating a t-shirt using 100 items they also did 100 exercises that day on TK students learning how to draw using crayons markers colored pencils and much more was there it's a lion goldfish Thing 1 or Frieda students are learning to follow directions while becoming young artists kindergarten students learning dreams do come true Fender gardeners are learning how to read and write in kindergarten I've been working hard in learning letters sounds sight words numbers counting adding subtracting and shapes we also try to have fun with Crawford fun projects and incorporate fun project in February in learned about the President George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in March we celebrated read Across America and they read a lot of dr. Seuss books even making a Cat in the Hat in March celebrated women's History Month 1 class learned about freedom and we also began to learn about shapes and made a shape animal first grade conquering first grade at during distance learning and all subjects are important but here are here in first grade the focus tremendous focus is on the efforts of learn how to read very important so you see the students there are reading and the writing about what they are reading it's hard enough learning how to read let alone while in learning and these students have been a rise to the challenge children breed daily and we maximize ability through small group instruction we couldn't be prouder of our literary accomplishments laying down a good base for success in first grade and there's a little video here but unfortunately I don't think it's going to play right now we have a technical problem with that I'm continuing with first grade now even though we're a distance learning at that hasn't stopped the teachers and students from getting creative this year has been packed lots of help at home activities with essential math and language arts standards that have kept students excited with some Hands-On activities now we've had plenty of fun learning are celebrating about eventful day such as St Patrick's Day 100 days day of school and others these activities are not just fun but mostly but importantly they challenged continue their imagination and problem solving skills hey in second grade the Kentucky Wildcats they can be zoologist and their fingers they can be engineers and artists most of all their hard workers who never give up our second grade graders have learned the meaning of perseverance by continuing their daily effort learn despite all the obstacles in not in distance learning and UC Davis Aggies at one of our classes or it is the UC Davis Aggies they're busy Tigers they are researchers investigating and learning about wild animals as they are engaged in learning how to take notes and dreaming big about their future they continue to grow as mathematicians writers and readers welcome to the wonderful world third grade we're all hard-working students transition from learning to read to reading to learn that's a big shift that happens in third grade they tackled challenging text that with a wide array of subjects can enjoy they have a we want you to enjoy to flipgrids here she can hear the students stats don't drink other people's but blood but a vampire bat drinks animals blood bats harmful to people unless you touch them or pick them other batch eat fruits and insects hey so they were studying about bats hi my name is Ruby and these are three ways how I show pause number 1 stay in you and number to show Respect by Cheney a camera on and number 328 your turn to talk by the students have been learning how to interact with each other online can we just full technical problem here one second you go back to that no appreciate your patience okay funny how I got up okay when you get to where we were okay in third grade we also have third graders are learn multiplication and division and fluency is essential in multiplication and division and so are wonderful students are challenging themselves through flipgrid irony Gigi and so much more back end take notes as you enjoy this multiplication lesson from one of our students tell everyone today I'm going to be telling you how to do multiple so first you take away 04 now 4 * 12 equals 20 can you add zero that you watched before that are equal to 108 * 770 to the same thing you take away 0 8 * 7 equals 50 and then you would react 0/1 and then you and your will be 560 so in order to do multiply multiples of 10 you have to First Take take away do for now for now multiply the numbers you want to get the number over there and then you add zero back and there they're the answer so when one thing that's really powerful we know is that when when students are asked to explain their thinking and they're asked to show someone else how to do it or how to how to solve the problem or how to I read a passage or whatever it is that's when they can teach it to someone else that's when they're really mastering it K in fourth grade they've been doing a lot of science projects at home that are fun and engaging lots of Hands-On things I've been doing a lot of steam activities are they even took a virtual field trip this year to Hearst castle and a couple other locations are there was a state park and also at Aqua safety puppet show so they lots of opportunities that we're bringing the students even though you're on Justice line and in 4th grade they've been also using seesaw to again show other students what they're learning and they did say one one of the classes comments of the Nutcracker can 5th grade mrs. Morris class a deep dive into finding facts and main ideas Mario Brothers on March 10th de Martin I guess that's supposed to be like Mario that's kind of did some research with that his child is class loves virtual science lab days in this lab they learned about the relationship between food activity and energy and then also in fifth grade there's a slide here that shows the students using. And let's hear from some of the kids the first earned on CNN 10 news is that China is going to make their own space station and the second thing I learned is that planet discovered in 2018 is made out of lava fun facts about black widows is that black widows can live up to 3 years where do black widows bites can be fatal to young children most people survive importance in its ecosystem the black widow spider creates its own habitat whether it spins and its own web with the first aid of its way the spider plays an active role in the ecosystem by helping to control insect populations okay and I want to share with you our reading challenge highlighting some of the students we had a February reading challenge and many many students Rose to the challenge and where I got the prize for doing the the principal reading challenge do they show you the winners here and get back to the right swinging and we're going to share with audio We Got the Beat We Got the Beat so we are very proud of our students who message Challenge and did a lot of reading in the month of February and were able to meet their principals reading challenge and there you see the names of all the many students were very proud of their accomplishments really want to encourage a lot of reading and these These are students who earn a lot of points in AR during the month of February okay let's move on now to the hybrid and learning schedule so I want to start with cuz I'm sure there are a lot of questions about safety procedures and protocols here at Sunkist as we look toward in-person learning so I do want to share with you a video that we have put out that will have available online but you'll be the first to see it tonight showing our protocols here in Sunkist for in-person learning coming up very soon 12th of April so here's our video hello Sunkist Community hello Tigers we this is mr. Vice principal and we are excited to offer the opportunity or in person learning at Sunkist beginning April 12th I want to personally welcome you all back and we have share with you that we have many safety measures in place to keep everyone healthy some of those highlights are touchless hand sanitizers in all classrooms clear plastic shield on all student desks and teacher desks all class Ross have been divided into two groups A and B to ensure that the maximum number of students in each class at any one given time is small enough to allow for the proper social distancing all students and staff will wear a mask at all times while on campus and we even have some extras if you need one and you're probably wondering about the schedule 4 high word learning students on their day if they're in group a they'll they'll come on Monday and Tuesday they should arrive on campus between 7:50 and 8 a.m. tkn kinderstube we'll have class from 8 to 10:30 1st through 3rd grade will have class from 8 to 11 and 4th and 5th graders will have class from 8 to 11:15 Waldo's students are on campus the other students at home are doing a synchronous work during that time distance learning will be with the teacher computer in TK and Kinder from 11 to 12:30 1st through 3rd grade 11 to 12:30 and 4th and 5th grade 11:15 to 12:45 make a 350 have intervention through distance learning Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. teachers continue to have all distance learning for all students on Wednesday using the same schedule they have currently parents who wish to have their students remain on distance learning and the schedule has been shared on ClassDojo that shows how that will work for distance learning students when dropping off your child at Sunkist and then picking them up at the end of their instructional day parents are asked to use the Puente parking lot to drop off TK kindergarten and first grade students at the gate between the kindergarten building and the first grade building second and third grade students may be dropped off at the large Green Gate next to the office and you can access either Puente Avenue parking lot or the mainland parking lot the students will walk in through that gate fourth and fifth graders are asked for asking you to drop them off at the library gate in the mail I'm parking lot we are requiring that all students do a self screening to make sure they are healthy enough to come to school at home please help your student by taking their temperature making sure they're well and that they have a mask we will scream them as they come into the campus we have hand-held thermometers 4tk Kinder and first grade and we have temporal scanners for second through fifth grade at their Gates students and parents gas to maintain social distancing at all times while on campus and those areas have been clearly marked on the pavement we will continue our grab-and-go lunch service meal service for 7 days worth of meals on Tuesdays in the afternoon additionally students who attend campus attend school on campus in person will receive a sack lunch as they leave campus we ask that students not bring food or drinks to school other than a water bottle and we do have refilling stations with filter therefore their water bottles are custodial staff will be cleaning and sanitizing classrooms daily and doing a deep cleaning of the classrooms on Wednesdays and also Friday afternoon I'm sure that the rooms are safe for all students and staff additionally each classroom is equipped with a Merv 16 air filter AARP fire we hope that you enjoy your spring break and we really look forward to welcoming students back on April 12th Monday April 12th for those in group a and Thursday April 15th for those in group b to find out what group A or B your child is on check out our class dojo school story or call or stop by the office we have posted each class roster with a two different groups on the front of the office for your convenience welcome back and remember after Bassett High School comes College thank you tigers Okay so that's a little bit of information about our protocols here on campus for the cleaning and how to drop off and pick up students and a little bit about the schedule I do want to show Heron's what is on Class Dojo so I need to go to that okay so you can see here this is Miss roses class her Monday Tuesday students are here and Thursday Friday students are here probably you may notice that many of these students in in these classes are their parents are electing to have them stay at home so that's fine they can can can you to work from home through distance learning they don't have to come back that is a Parent's Choice however if they are if you are choosing to have them come back this is the group they belong to so what we John is we balance each classroom with half the number of students on Monday when are Monday Tuesday and the other half on Thursday Friday so again. All of the students that are listed here are electing to come back for in-person learning while we were you programmed all the students so that in case parents in case you change your mind and you start out DL but then you want them to come in and do on campus construction you can do that and I see that I'm being translated into English for one second let me change that setting want to make sure the translation is in Spanish I apologize I just noticed that okay so we should be translating at the bottom of the screen in Spanish now Okay so Uber head to mrs. Garcia's class again her class is divided in half now we took into account households so all students who live at the same address are on the same grew so if if you have a sibling or a cousin someone else who lives in the home all the children who belong to Sunkist who live in the same house at the same address they are on the same schedule they're either on a Thursday Friday schedule are there on a Monday Tuesday and here we do ask and parents drop off all students who are coming drop off after you at the appropriate key because we want to keep the students separate as much as we possibly can so we have different Gates as the video describe four different grade levels to separate out to students when they come they need time between 7:50 and 8 because there's no one who is going to be available to watch them before 7:50 that is the earliest they can drive 750 when they come through the gate they are going to be they're going to have their temperature taken by either a Temporal Scanner which is sort of take looks at your face you line up your face with the with the looks like an iPad and then it tells you normal temperature or above and and if a parent accompanies a child right up to the gate then someone may ask you some some health questions of the parent but we're not going to be asking the child screening questions we may ask the parent if the parent is accompanying the child to the gate but children if they come to the by themselves or going to take their temperature and then they're going to be taken to class we have hired back 5 ssm's who are going to be assisting students to go to their classrooms and the teacher it will be available as early as 7:50 to welcome those students into the classroom between 7:50 and 8 just want to go through these are posted on the front of the office on the Windows of the front office and they're also this presentation that I'm showing you right now he's on ClassDojo there is a link to that so as you can see we've divided classes in half so if everybody chose to come back and Miss Aronson's class we would not be over the amount we should have on any given day but again it is a Parent's Choice whether they want them to come back or not and most people by now have let us know what they want and the teachers are aware of who to expect on the 12 and who to expect on the 15th and who is going to be staying home and again that is your choice so I wanted to share that with you okay we do have the ability let me stop sharing this and okay we do have the ability to take some questions so I going to ask Miss Veronica who is our school secretary to unmute and let me know what some of the questions are so thank you so I'm one of the questions is go back to my question parents are asking about schedules what are the schedules okay perhaps it's easiest to show that than it is to explain it so let me find that schedule and then we'll we'll go through it because I I know that it can be it can be a confusing sell me just fine that really quick baby cat while I'm looking for that can we go into another question and let me find the schedule one question that was asked earlier about UNIF we did answer in the chat yeah so we're looking for students to be dressed appropriately for school we are not going to be requiring uniform if you have uniforms that fit you want to send them in that that's great because at least you know that that would be appropriate but we're not requiring the uniforms because parents we know we just know that you've been through enough right now they have to worry going out and buying uniforms so we're not we're not doing that another quote post regarding schedule so if if a student is here in person in the morning are they required to be in class online in the afternoon okay yes and no and it'll be easier if I stay get here I'm sorry it's taking me a minute to find it apologize I will I know where it is here okay let me share screen okay Veronica is that can you see that yes I see the top half of that soul just kishos okay if there if it if it looks the picture looks like there's this is a synchronous the students kind of like saying independent are working independently online what the school house means that they're here physically here if you're choosing guy but if you're not using that then you won't be intervention is this one and then dissing starting okay let's take a student who is in group a and is electing to come back to school this is what they will do they'll arrive don't come on Monday and Tuesday for the schoolhouse they'll arrive between 7:50 and 8 and I'll stay until 10 30 11 or 11:15 depending on their grade level and then they go home they got a sack lunch and they go home so parents will pick them up at these times now TK Kinder that the teachers have like a little time in here for 1032 I think it's 11 where they can arrange with you parents if they wanted to keep a couple students or just one child to test them they maybe they have an assessment to do or they want to catch them up on something they'll arrange that with you they have a little bit of time in their schedule to do that but these are the pickup times and then that's soon we'll go home and be a synchronous the rest of the day so there are not having to come back onto the computer after they leave at this time but there is this intervention down here so intervention is for any student that died teacher needs to come back to class with her online so the teacher will communicate to you okay I need you know the orange group or I want the bear reading the Bears are going to join me whatever it is however the teacher has designed to her maybe it's going to be the ELD students to come on at 1 from 1:30 to 2:15 so is it possible that if you were here physically here Monday morning from 8 to 11:15 and then the teacher wanted to see you online at 1:30 yes but it may not happen everyday but that's an intervention and then if you're in group a on everybody's distance learning on Wednesday just like what we have now on Wednesdays no difference Thursday's if you came to school Monday and Tuesday then Thursday and during that same time you're going to be doing a synchronous work independent work online and then you're going to join your teacher online for live instruction on the computer Thursday and Friday from 11 to 12:30 let's say if they're in first grade and then group is just the opposite they come Thursday and Friday and then so wherever it says the schoolhouse. I need to be here if it says this symbol that's when they're doing independent work online this symbol means that they are with the teacher online live getting instruction for the teacher does that help yes I do have another question so if my son is in group b is he distance learning correct okay so all children are divided into a or b butt that doesn't mean they have to come back we just balanced all the classes so if you want your child to remain totally in distance learning let's say a parent who says no you know what we're doing fine on the computer I don't want them to come in here is what they're going to do let me walk you through that they are going to do a synchronized work good morning every morning and then they're going to attend school with the teacher online from let's say they're in first grade from 11 to 2 then the teacher may have them come to this intervention time maybe not depends on whether they feel they need it and then everybody is going to be online on Wednesday so that's what it would look for a it would look like for a student whose just online all the time it would be this time this dl11 to say 12:30 or 11:15 to 12:45 so I have a Spanish question and again it goes under sink scheduling and fences so so then this means they'll have the same hours as they do now I know it is a little bit different it's a little bit different because some teachers now have been live with their students all day I know that I have a few kindergarten classes that do that I know that I have one upper grade class that does that others have been doing more independent work and then meeting with the students for like 80 minutes or even summer doing small group like 80 minutes a whole group with all the students in 80 minutes with small groups and then 80 minutes asynchronous so it is going to be very this kind of makes it all more uniform because we have some kids that are going he physically here on some at home so it may be a little different thank you and then I have another question let's see here what if if we live on Mainland and have APK student do we have to walk all the way around or will we be able to walk through Sunkist campus yeah that's a very good question when we set up the gates Weaver think about people in cars right so if you're if you're driving in let's say you're if you're going to drive in on the mainland side I would come into the parking lot Park walk your child across the one of the school into the down the sidewalk of the Puente parking lot kind of following the kindergarten playground and then there is a line with markers on the ground for social distancing six feet apart where the students can wait at that gate so to answer your question if you're walking get here however you need to get here but you know we understand if you're coming from the mainland side yeah but you care then you don't have to go walk all the way around like tagliero and all the way down from the Avenue you can come through the through the front of the school not onto the campus but like through the front by the turn office and then down that sidewalk to go to your gate in it is important that students enter through the correct gate so I hope that helps if not please put another question in the chat if I didn't answer that correctly okay so we have a couple we have the same question a couple times now if I had requested my child to do distance learning and now I have changed my mind to in person do I go anyways or can I pick a group you you come okay so if anybody who wants to change their mind to go from distance learning to hybrid welcome we we want to have your child here and we're ready for them and the reason we're ready for them is because we or if you divided every single student in the school on either a or b even if the parents said no totally distance learning okay but we put them in a or b just in case knowing some people may choose remind and say no I actually do want them to come two days a week in which case they've already been assigned to a group A or B so if you change your mind that's great you're welcome to come down but pay attention to weather in the a group in the B group and make sure you're coming on the appropriate day because we have balanced the class perfectly so that we don't have too many kids in the class okay and so now I have another question to says here would you please tell us what time the class would start on Wednesday after spring break and will the class on Wednesday be hybrid or distance learning Wednesday's will be exactly as they are now I mean teachers made change it up a little bit but basically whatever we're doing whatever we've been doing now on Wednesdays that's what the class is going to look like on Wednesdays from now on the rest of the school year Wednesdays will be the same you can on the schedule I think it's still on there you can see that everyone's distance learning and then there is that you know how the kids always get out at 1 because the teachers have video or professional development like that it's going to be the same like that some classes I think started eight others have been starting at 8:30 but as long as they're needing the correct number of minutes for that grade level from from the beginning of the day to 1 then that that's the schedule and I think maybe we have a little bit of time for two more questions Mister to write a very good question will there be after school program if parents cannot pick up children at at that time so we have just found out that we're authorized to have a we're working with sync together we're going to have two classes of thing to go most of their activities are going to be outside we're going to try and do as many like outdoor activities as we can with them and we're Spa lowing all the same protocols in think together we are putting those classes together now and we're thinking about our homeless Foster youth English language Learners students with special needs you know we're trying to build our our schedules that way I would say if you want to sing together call the office let us know write down your name I'm working on getting those I'm schedules together I know that enough schedules I mean rosters together was he with her things together Partners to do that it's going to be first come first serve and there is space is limited it'll run that program a run through about I think 3:30 p.m. is not going to go like it used to go to all the way to 6 is not going to be like that because they're going to start right at the end of the day so if your child in first and they're going to go to think together they're going to start thing together at 11 cuz that's when they get out and then that's only going to be for the students who were physically here that day so the thing together classes on Thursday Friday would be different kids than think together classes on Monday Tuesday so I hope that makes sense we're still working out those details but thank you for that question about things together we are we are coming back but in a limited way okay and I think maybe this is going to be the last question for this round unless we go further the question is for those who have chosen DL distance learning please clarify if we'll have live instruction 3 or 5 days they will have live instruction with the teacher all five days and okay so maybe one more question mr. to buy sure is there a time schedule setup for break when in person at school yes so we're working the I'm working on that schedule right now the students have a 15 min kind of like what work on your brain break go outside you're not going to use playground equipment we're not calling it recess because they can't share equipment but they can stretch they can walk around get you know some fresh air and use the restroom and use the water bottle refilling station and get some fresh water because we have those refilling station on the teachers also will be out there watching other students we have our ssm's back who will be out there watching of course everyone distanced right from each other everyone wearing a mask yes the opportunity to take a break is really important it'll be a 15-minute break when we used to do recess before we would have the whole grade level all third-graders go out at the playground going to do is pair up like to first grade classes would go out together but they would be on different sides of the playground cuz the playgrounds really large but remember you're only talking about maybe 10 kids from one class and 10 kids from another class and then on the playground they can be separated enough that they won't mix but they will have that time outside this the exact schedule is not I haven't worked it out yet cuz I'm still working on pairing up the the rooms and figuring out what it's going to be 15 minutes for sure it will probably start around 8:45 at 2 the earliest and 9:30 at the latest depending on like the TK Kinder it would be earlier cuz they get out earlier and then the 4th and 5th might be a little bit later but it'll be staggered so there will only ever have two classes on a playground at the same time thank you it's 6 it is well that questions and answer time or a lot of extra a lot of more questions or issues regarding parent volunteers okay parents that were cleared to volunteer saddens me to say this but we have to follow the County of Public Health guidelines which right now say that any non-essential Personnel just cannot be on campus so we cannot have stood I've had to turn away student teachers who needed observation hours for together Prudential from the University can't have them here parent volunteers we can't do it right now we love you parent volunteers but we can't have you here right now I'm so sorry no okay so we're at 6 now 601 tears, tears and vaccinated I think that's the right answer was still the same yeah it's still the same unfortunately but if you think this video of the whole recording of this meeting will be online on our website also tell other parents who weren't here if they have questions parents share with
