Mr. Jason C. Tveit
Welcome back, Tigers, to the 2021-2022 school year!
I am proud to be the Principal of Sunkist Elementary School, home of the college-bound Tigers. Now entering my 24th year serving the Bassett community, I started as a high school band and choir director and then transitioned to administration to serve on a larger scale. For the past four years, I have had the privilege to lead an amazing group of hard-working, intelligent, and caring teachers and staff here at Sunkist.
In 2015 Sunkist officially became a "No Excuses University" (NEU) school. Today we continue to build on the six exceptional systems of NEU. We do this work because we believe that every student deserves to be educated in a way that prepares them for college or career. We also believe in educating the whole child in order to nurture “kids of character” by focusing on Social Emotional Learning as well as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). If you would like to learn more about these learning techniques, please come by Coffee with the Principal or drop by my office and we can discuss. In every classroom, we provide all our students with daily rigorous instruction that promotes the development of these 21st century skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
Coming off an extraordinary year of distance learning and hybrid instructional models, along with the many challenges we faced together, we at Sunkist have deepened our commitment to helping each and every student to grow, develop their skills, and master essential grade-level standards. We will continue to focus on three areas of critical importance for our students and the Bassett community: providing a safe and welcoming learning environment, working with parents and students to increase daily attendance, and providing engaging and rigorous learning opportunities that will set students up for success in middle school. Sunkist will do our part to prepare College and Career ready students.
Please know that my door is open to you. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please stop by, call, email, or come to Coffee with the Principal. I also invite you to visit our website and to follow us on Class Dojo, Instagram, and Facebook for information, announcements, and updates.
On behalf of the whole “Tiger Team” here at Sunkist, I would like to wish all of you a wonderful school year and always remember that, "after Bassett High School, comes college".
Mr. Jason C. Tveit
