Mr. Jason C. Tveit
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!
I am proud to be the Principal of the Sunkist Elementary School, home of the college-bound tigers. Now entering my 21st serving the Bassett community, I started as a high school band and choir director and then transitioned to administration to serve on a larger scale. I now have the privilege to lead an amazing group of hard-working, intelligent, and caring teachers and staff here at Sunkist.
Sunkist officially became a "No Excuses University" (NEU) school in the 2015-16 school year and today we continue to build on the six exceptional systems of NEU. We do this work because we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to be educated in a way that prepares them for college or career. We also believe in educating the whole child so we focus on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) and on building character. In every classroom, we provide our students with daily rigorous instruction that supports the development of 21st century skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
For the past two years, the Sunkist faculty, has adopted a theme of “find a way”. We are focused on three areas of critical importance to our children and the Bassett community: improving safety, increasing daily attendance, and building a professional learning community to raise student academic achievement and prepare our students for success at Torch Middle School, Bassett High School, and a college of their choice.
With our theme we will…
- “find a way” to continue to make Sunkist a welcoming place for parents while keeping are students and campus grounds safe and secure
- “find a way” to work with and support our families to ensure that children attend school every day on time and ready to learn
- “find a way” to improve every child’s proficiency in English Language Arts and Mathematics by working together in a professional learning community and sharing best practices to continuously refine our instruction
Please know that my door is open to you. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please stop by, call, or email me. I also invite you to continue visiting our website and to follow us on Class Dojo, Instagram, and Facebook for information, announcements, and updates.
On behalf of the whole “Tiger Team” here at Sunkist, I would like to wish all of you a wonderful school year and always remember that, "after Bassett High School, comes college".
Mr. Jason C. Tveit
